Discover Graythwaite Estate

A 5,000 acre privately owned, family run estate. Graythwaite is bursting with history in the heart of the Lake District.

History of Graythwaite

The Sandys family have lived on the estate for some 500 years since Graythwaite Hall was built in the 16th Century.

With historical gardens that were originally designed by Thomas Mawson in 1889, the gardens today follow a similar design of his to keep the tradition going.

In 1980 the family developed the home farm complex into spectacular holiday homes and have been adding to the portfolio ever since.

With over 5,000 acres to explore the family have a picked a few of their favourite places on the estate for everyone to explore and enjoy the picturesque views first hand.

Fishery

Seeing squirrels, jumping fish and perhaps a deer along the way, this view is not one to be missed during your stay on the estate or in the Lake District.

Leaving the Home Farm complex turn right at the end of the lane and head up the road (towards Keepers Cottage) and follow the road to the right.

The Lake walk to Grubbins Point

Another of the family’s favourite walks is The Lake Walk to Grubbins Point.

Grubbins Point sits on the edge of Lake Windermere and has panoramic view of the lake. The walk is approximately one and a half miles long but is filled with breath taking views.
