There’s a brand-new wellness experience on the Estate – Hide Sauna in the Lake District. It’s a Nordic-inspired retreat where you can unwind, reconnect with nature and experience the restorative ritual of hot and cold therapy. Inspired by a traditional wildlife hide, this timber sanctuary offers a quiet, low-impact way to connect with nature. Here you can plug into the story of nature’s remarkable comeback on the Graythwaite Estate, which is one of England’s largest conservation projects.
A Natural Vantage Point
Whether you’re inside looking out, through a large panoramic window framing the Lake, or stepping out for a cool down, you’re in a perfect vantage point for wildlife watching. If you keep still and quiet, you might catch a glimpse of the Estate’s returning biodiversity. It could be the sudden blue flash of a kingfisher by the water, a red squirrel foraging for food or briefly at dawn or dusk shy pine marten crossing a path or moving through the woodland.
The Hot-Cold Routine
When the heat peaks, step outside to complete a traditional hot-and-cold contrast routine:
- The Heat: Sit on timber benches to soak up the cleansing warmth.
- The Cold: Cool down under the outdoor shower, use the dedicated cold plunge pool, or walk down to the shore for a wild swim in Lake Windermere.

Advance bookings are required and your options are:
